Finals Night

On Wednesday night we have the final of the What A Tornado N2 525. Michael Bergins Cill Dubh Lodge has put in 2 eye catching performances, last week he covered the circuit in a smart time of 29.38 and despite a tricky trap 6 draw he will be the likely favourite.  The card will also feature the final of the A4 Novice 725 where Five Ally Cathy will be the favourite after making an impressive 6 bend debut.

On Friday we have the final of the Gain Feeds Open 725. This really is a top class final with cases made for all greyhounds involved. Local favourite Welesbourne Dan will be the likely favourite, however Air Force Ellie & Killough Harry are in top form at present and can really put it up to “Dan”.  Droopys Alexus has unbelievable pace but must start coming away better, if she does she has a huge chance. St Mullins Pride and Pachacuti must take flyers from Trap 5 & Trap 6 respectively, both ran well last week and can go close. The card will also feature the 4 Quarter Finals of the Springhill Court A4 where Marie Byrne’s Dysert O GARA was the star of the 1st round when he recorded 29.28 in only his 2nd race. The rest of the card will feature 4 1st rd heats of the John Mitchell ( track bookmaker) A3 / A4.

SEMI FINAL TIME

On friday we have the 2 semi finals of the Gain Feeds Open 725. Welesbourne Dan was the fastest 1st rd winner last friday night, he will have to overcome a tricky trap 6 draw in Fridays Semi Final but he will still be expected to take his place in the final Friday week. Paul Hennessy's Air Force Ellie and Pat Mullett's St Mullins Pride were the other heat winners, both recording identical times and they will fancy their chances of making the final also. Peter Cronin guided Bog Road Joe and Pachacuti safely into Fridays semi final draw and although both of them were drawn in the same heat dont be suprised if the Mooncoin handler gets the 2 of them into the final. It will be hugely interesting to see how Droopys Alexus performs friday night. This mARCH 2010 whelp was might impressive in defeat and actually won a 845 yd race in Newbridge on Saturday. This one looks like a real star over 6 bends next year.
Fridays card will also feature 8 1st rd heats of the Springhill Court Hotel A4 525. This carries a cool €2,000 to the winner and is kindly sponsored by The Springhill Court Hotel and Richie Walsh, Track Bookmaker. The final is scheduled for Friday December 9th where there will be a number of finals on the night aswell as free draws and entertainment afterwards in the Springill Court Hotel.

Meaney's Mount Leinster Triumph's

After knocking on the door for all teh big prizes in Kilkenny this year, Mt. Leinster Hill finally got his just reward and produced a big run in a final.   From teh unfavourable red jacket, he won his buckle to the bend with Cashmans Cat and powered all the way down the back coming home in an impressive 29.27 from a gallant Cashman's Cat who chased him hard all the way to the line.

Winner of the Kilford Arms Hotel A3 Final was Mt Leinster Hill, Sponsor Pius Phelan presents the trophy to Maeve Meaney also present Miriam and Jerry Meaney with Racing Manager, Tom Kinane

Kilford Semi-Finals on Friday

On friday we have the Semi Finals of the Kilford Arms Hotel A2 525 which carries a winners prize of €2,000. Cashmans Cat has been some servant to owner Danny McEvoy and trainer Paul Hennessy and is going for an incredible 5 wins in a row. But as they know too well in Kilkenny, its not too easy to pull of a 5 in a row!!!

Welesbourne Dan

Last Friday saw Welesbourne Dan notch up his 25th career win, most of these have been in open class.

Dan turned four years old last May and still holds his own against top class stayers. A great servant to Thomas and Damien.

Ballinkillen GAA had a small benifit evening and brought along the Liam McCarthy Cup to share with the crowd.  This was another great fundraising success at the track and more clubs and charities should take notice.

Uncle Willie take the Sean Flynn Memorial

On Friday we had the final of the Sean Flynn Memorial A3 525. This final boasted a cool €1,500 to the winner and no doubt the Richard Dempsey owned Uncle Willie was a worthy winner.   After two impressive displays winning the opening round in 29.05 and the semi final in 29.07, Uncle Willie was opened at the very short price of 4/6, but that didn't deter the punters, and they went after the price and returned the dog a 1/2 shot.   As the lids opened Willie shot to the bend and for many it was all over, but Soldier Laddie, went off in pursuit and pushed 'Willie all the way to line, but the winner did it in style none the less.

Burgess, A Derby Star

The rain swept accross James' park last Friday evening and most people of sound mind would take one look out the window and seek solace in a hot cuppa tae and turf fire.   However, doggy people are often questioned for their relative levels of sanity, and they all came out in force to witness a superb nights action at Kilkenny Track.

The showpiece being the Langton Derby, and this year it has again given us a very good winner, in Co. Cork dog Burgess Star.    The stake has had its share of thrills and spills throughout and the final followed true to form, with near carnage at the first bend which all but ended the chances of every dog bar 'Burgess', whose superb foot to be bend saw him sneak ahead of the trouble of open up down the back straight and go on to score by 5L from Cool Disguised, in an impressive 29.19.

Langton Derby Final Night

Friday night will see over €12,000 in prize money handed out in Kilkenny, on that is traditionally one of the best nights racing of the year in the Kilkenny track.
The showpiece event is the Langton Derby, which despite not attracting a massive entry this year it has attracted a lot of serious quality.   Last year’s stake gave one the fastest ever winner of the stake in Moral Duty, whose 28.78 is the fastest spin around James’ Park since the track redevelopment.

Semi-Final Action Ahead

Its semi - final stage this week at Kilkenny Track. On Wednesday we have the 2 semi finals of the Aries Son @ Stud A4 525. Fastest 1st rd winner At The Limit will be expected to go close again but certainly wont have it his own way with Tynwald Quid in Trap 1 and Lemon Lola in trap 2. The other heat looks wide open with claims made for Paul Hennessy's Master Magoo and Paddy Butlers in form Scholes Boy.

Duke Roars To Paddy Butler Win

Out and Gone !!    That was the case for Carrigcanon Duke as he took the spoils in the Paddy Butler Memorial A5 final on Friday night.    A wonderful victory for the Paul Reid and Richard Vereker owned ‘Duke’, who is really going in the right direction improving in every way with each run.   He was brought to this side of the country after starting his schooling in Kerry with this prize in mind, of that I have no doubt,  and he duly obliged for connections.

Pearl Scorches into Paddy Butler Final

Stakes action continues apace at Kilkenny with over the coming weeks.    Our showpiece event, The Langton Derby, gets underway on Friday week, August 19th, a week later than adertised, and entries are still open.   As always it promises to be a great event.   This Friday's card will feature the final of the Paddy Butler 525, with €4800 in prize money to be distributed.

Last Friday’s benefit night for St. Martins, Muckalee GAA club was a great success, generating a big crowd, and proved once again what a wonderful fundraising facility the Kilkenny track is for local clubs and charities.   This coming Friday sees Timahoe GAA host their annual benefit night.

On the racing front last Friday nights focus was on the semi-finals of the Paddy Butler 525, and it was Ger Kiely’s bitch, Airmount Pearl (1/1f) who stole the show, breaking smartly and taking it up from the first bend, she ran on strong to record a scintillating 29.14, the fastest run from a bitch so far in 2011 at the track.

Derby Action on Wednesday

This week sees the start of the Ladbrokes.Com Derby at Shelbourne Park, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evening, where 144 of the country’s best greyhounds will take their chance and the most coveted prize in the greyhound world.

You will be able to watch first round heats from Shelbourne Park racing from Kilkenny on Wednesday evening and betting facilities into the tote pool will also be available.

Among Wednesday nights runners will be Barefoot Machine,  a participant in this year’s Red Mills unraced at Kilkenny, where among his opponents is one of the 2010 Red Mills class, Tyrur Quinn.   Ledger Winner What a Tornado and Champion Stakes winner Uncle Eoin also go to traps on Wednesday night.

There’s also a "hot looking" N1 Stake starting at Kilkenny, and a quick glance at the runners and their breeding would indicate that there could possibly be a couple of 2012 Derby dogs making their debut,  so get yourself along for a great nights racing!

Summer Party A Roaring Success

A superb crowd in excess of 1000 patrons turned up in Kilkenny for the Summer Party night.   It made for a great nights entertainment for all, many of whom were first time visitors to the track, who will hopefully return.   The atmosphere showed all that is good about a night at the dogs.

Kilkenny Track... the story so far

Also, on Sunday night for the BEAM we had Lar Sutton, of Nobooth for Gary and Enniscorthy track fame in attendance on the night, and the result is that some of the action has been captured on camera.

BEAM Night - A roaring success

Sunday night drew a massive crowd to Kilkenny track for the BEAM, Bagnelstown benfit night.    Lots of old friends of Kilkenny track were spotted soaking up a hugely enjoyable nights racing.

BEAM Services Bagnelstown Benefit Night

Sunday June the 19th sees the annual BEAM Gala race night at Kilkenny Greyhound Track. The event is now one of the highlight of the racing calendar, and as always will draw a massive crowd for this very worthy cause. BEAM, Bagnelstown are a wonderful charity, doing Trojan work for people with special needs from their resource centre in Bagnelstown, and this night is their primary annual fund raiser. This is the 22nd year that Kilkenny Greyhound Stadium has hosted the event and over the course of the 22 years BEAM have raised over €400,000 for the charity.

Red Mills Champion Unraced - 2011.. as it happened

Great start to the Red Mills last night, and the overall standard of this group of puppies is high. Before racing there were a lot of talking dogs, and word of flashy unrecorded trials was being bandied about like snuff at a wake.
